Plano de Negócios Unifunding
Tendo em consideração as difíceis condições económicas que Portugal
enfrenta e a necessidade fazer crescer o tecido empresarial, as empresas
Process mining: a framework proposal for pervasive business intelligence
In recent years, global growth slowed, the markets have matured and become more competitive. The impact of computing in organizations made information technology a strategic element to the acquisition and maintenance of competitive advantage. Based on the literature review in the related areas of Business Intelligence (BI) and Process Mining (PM), is presented a framework for improving the decision-making processes in organizations
An expert system for supporting Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment
Portugal has recently become one the few European countries to fully acknowledge Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); this
substantial paradigm shift calls for novel tools for TCM practitioners, students and patients alike. This paper describes an Expert
System for supporting the TCM consultation process – both in terms of gathering and managing the patients’ personal and
symptomatic data, and of obtaining accurate diagnoses and treatments under regulated and reviewed protocols. The proposed tool
was designed and is being developed with the support of two TCM therapists, which act as experts and provide aid to the
processes of building the knowledge base and the automatic diagnosis system. In terms of architecture, the current version of the
framework includes a mobile client application for the Android platform, integrated with an online spreadsheet. A survey was
conducted in order to assess some of the needs of the community of TCM practitioners, and allowed gathering information on
their needs
Lean Safety - assessment of the impact of 5S and Visual Management on safety
This study was developed in a furniture company and aimed to implement some Lean
tools, such as 5S and Visual Management to reduce waste, by improving the production process.
To carry out this analysis an observation plan was used, having the Spaghetti diagram as a
reference as well as the value-added analysis of the operations. The implementation of 5S's
allowed the improvement of the visual management and the organization through a
reorganization of the layout, as well as normalization of the production process. With this, a
reduction of 40% was achieved in terms of waste related to activities that did not add value to
the product, such as unnecessary movements, waiting times and even movement of materials,
having achieved a level of productivity of 74% and 87% in the finishing and joinery sections,
respectively. In addition to improvements in the production process, the impact of the measures
at the safety level (lean safety) was assessed. For this purpose, a questionnaire was prepared to
assess the opinion of the employees, in which 40% considered that the implementation of the
tools provided a greater motivation to develop their work activities safelyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Competes: estudo prospectivo-estratégico das competências e mais-valias no terceiro sector
Microphone array for speaker localization and identification in shared autonomous vehicles
With the current technological transformation in the automotive industry, autonomous vehicles are getting closer to the Society of Automative Engineers (SAE) automation level 5. This level corresponds to the full vehicle automation, where the driving system autonomously monitors and navigates the environment. With SAE-level 5, the concept of a Shared Autonomous Vehicle (SAV) will soon become a reality and mainstream. The main purpose of an SAV is to allow unrelated passengers to share an autonomous vehicle without a driver/moderator inside the shared space. However, to ensure their safety and well-being until they reach their final destination, active monitoring of all passengers is required. In this context, this article presents a microphone-based sensor system that is able to localize sound events inside an SAV. The solution is composed of a Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) microphone array with a circular geometry connected to an embedded processing platform that resorts to Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology to successfully process in the hardware the sound localization algorithms. This work is supported by: European Structural and Investment Funds in the FEDER component, through the Operational Competitiveness and Internationalization Programme (COMPETE 2020) [Project nº 039334; Funding Reference: POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039334]
Patient-physician discordance in assessment of adherence to inhaled controller medication: a cross-sectional analysis of two cohorts

Sustainable woody biomass production systems: a novel solution for energy, agriculture and the environment in Portugal
Bioenergy is a major current issue within the agriculture and energy sectors and the society in general. The environmental and social concerns raised by first generation biofuel crops increased the interest on woody biomass. Biomass production for direct conversion to heat and/or electricity is common in northern European countries, the USA, and, more recently, southern Europe, mainly based on short rotation woody crops (SRWC). These crops are renewable sources of energy, CO2 neutral, able to preserve biodiversity and water, and to contribute to socio-economic development.
In Portugal, there is an increasing demand of renewable and sustainable sources of energy. Portugal also presents conditions to expand biomass production and use for energy, namely through SRWCs. There is, however, a lack of experience in this field.
With the purpose of studying short rotation woody crops dedicated to energy production, we have launched in Bragança, Portugal, a research project aiming to develop technology for the sustainable production, processing, and use of woody biomass for energy. The goal is to analyse environmental and socio-economic aspects of these crops considering carbon cycle, conservation of water, soils, and biodiversity, as well as creation of wealth locally. It also aims to evaluate the potential of northeastern Portugal for biomass production and carbon sequestration.
In this presentation we address the rational behind the project, the methodologies followed, and the results obtained during the first year of the study. We also present our perspectives on the role of woody biomass production at several scales and for several scenarios.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. (PTDC/AGR‐CFL/64500/2006
